Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Contemporary, Photojournalism, Portraiture
What do your packages include?
Digital Files, High Resolution Images, Proof CD of All Images, Video Montage
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
We love both color and black and white photography, and present our final edit as an assortment of both. Typically, the mix is about 60% color, 30% black and white. We often throw in a few textured or fun edits. After you receive your image collection on disc, you are free to request some changes if you want that special image in color or black and white, and we'll make that change for you.
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
Of course! We work with natural light, with off-camera flash equipment, remote triggered flash, reflectors, studio lighting, and more. There are certain times of day when the light is better, but we can work with whatever is on hand.
Is your media preference film or digital?
At this time, we shoot all digital photography on Canon 5d Mark ii and 7d cameras. We are hoping to mix in some novelty film photography using Kat's Leica M5, Leicaflex, and Hasselblad cameras at some point.
How many photographers do you work with?
The two of us (Kat & Justin) always work together unless it absolutely can't be helped. Should Justin be for whatever reason unavailable, Kat will call in one of her trusted colleagues as a second-shooter.
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Of course! :)
Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
We only ever shoot one wedding a day. There may be rare occurrences where we photograph more than one wedding a weekend, but this is not our preferred M.O.
Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes. We guarantee a replacement (that you may veto) if we are barred by medical reason or Act of God, or alien abduction from attending your wedding.
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Oh boy, where to start? We carry with us three cameras, a bajillion memory cards, a slew of fixed and zoom Canon lenses, several flashes, remote triggers, studio lighting, light modifiers, extension cords, light stands, tripods, doodads, whoosiwhatsits, and thingamabobs. We always bring a few goodies and a bridal emergency kit, too.
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Mais oui. We have backups for all of our equipment in case something goes kaput.
Do you charge hourly or full day?
Our wedding photography coverage is for a full day only (from when the bride starts getting ready until the main reception events are over). Typically, this is anywhere from 8-10 hours. We're usually there until the very end!
Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Anything over the standard day-of coverage (8-10 hours), such as multiple-day events, or extended events 10+ hours, are covered by a standard $200/hour add-on.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We don't really take breaks except for maybe a quick lunchtime snack and dinner. We go where you go, so when you're eating we'll nip away to replenish our stores and come back in time for the good stuff. Most people insist on not being photographed while stuffing their faces, anyway. We do ask that you provide us with dinner, but we're not picky eaters!
Do you charge for travel?
Travel within the greater Seattle area is free. Anything more than 60 miles outside the city center is covered by a standard federal $0.50 charge per mile for driving, or dollar-per-dollar reimbursement for airfare or lodging. Essentially, for us to travel, it just costs the same as gas or a plane ticket.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Your proofs will be ready 4-6 weeks after your wedding.
In what format are the initial proofs offered?
We send you a link to a private online gallery you can share with friends and family, as well as printed proofs so you can see what a hard copy of your photographs looks like in-person.
How long can the client keep the proofs?
Your proofs will be online for 6 months after they have been posted. You get to keep the hard copies indefinitely.
Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
We retain the copyright for the photos for commercial use but release our clients to reproduce all of their photographs for personal use. This means you can print them no problem, but can't sell them (for example) for an ad or stock photography.
Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
We do! We hope that photographs of your lovely wedding will help us find more awesome couples like you! If you specifically have an issue with your images being used in marketing materials, please talk to us about it.
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Absolutely! All of our couples receive their images on disc, sized both for print and for Web.
Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes. We send out a URL to a private, share-able, online gallery as soon as your proofs are ready.
What kind of albums do you offer?
We offer the finest handmade, heirloom-quality albums by Cypress Albums in a variety of styles. These are an incredible way to tell your wedding story for generations to come. For engagements, guest books, and/or coffee-table albums, we offer more economical press-printed albums, all with beautiful cloth or photo-printed covers.
When will the client get the final album?
Depending on the type of album ordered, production by the album company can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks after the album layout is submitted for printing and binding.
