Frequently Asked Questions for Wedding Cake
Besides cakes, what other types of desserts do you provide?
Cookies, Cupcakes, Dessert Buffet, Fruit, Groom's Cake

What additional services do you provide?
Consultations, On-site Delivery, On-site Setup, Pickup, Tastings

What dietary needs can you accommodate?
Gluten Free, Organic

Do you provide customary cakes, such as Croquembouche?
Yes

Are you licensed by the state health department?
No

Do you offer private tastings or open house tastings?
Private with as many guests as you would like.

What are your tasting hours?
Though I prefer to provide consultation/tastings on Mondays or Tuesdays, I do my best to work around your availability.

Describe how you price, such as by slice or by tier, for your cakes?
Wedding cake is $4.50-$6.00/slice, and may increase if specialty items are used (i.e.: sugar flowers). 3D Groom's cakes are $4.00/slice; other prices vary, please view my website for more information, www.OCakes.com (Ordering & Delivery page).

Does the price include the top tier of the cake?
Top tiers are priced by the slice as well.

Do you offer custom cakes, or do you work with pre-designed styles?
I do both! Custom cakes are great, or I can replicate most cakes.

What (if any) special ingredients, such as fresh fruits or farm-fresh butter, do you use in your cakes?
Most incredients are organic. I offer gluten-free cakes, some vegetarian cakes, and am willing to research for special recipes to accommodate any dietary need or any request, given enough advanced notice (preferably 1 month or more).

On average, how far in advance of the event do you prepare the cake?
Normally 1-2 days prior, depending on the size of cake. Some large cakes may take an extra day. All cakes are kept in an extremely cold refrigerator for ultimate freshness. I only freeze sample cakes.

How many cakes do you schedule for a typical weekend?
I normally only take 1 wedding cake per weekend day, to give it my full attention; however I feel I can give my full attention to 2 small cakes as well. I have never taken more than two cakes.

Will you work with the client's florist to garnish the cake?
Yes. I prefer the Florist to garnish the cake as they are the expert regarding flowers. If the Bride is not working with a Florist, I normally offer to garnish the cake, or even purchase flowers (which would be added to the final invoice).

What (if any) cake accessories, such as a cake stand or cake cutter, do you rent out?
I have a small number of cake stands, cake pedestals, and cake serving sets. I am happy to rent these to you, however I don't have a large selection. I can help locate rented items through other vendors for you.

Do you offer delivery? If yes, how much is your average delivery fee?
Yes. Delivery is free for the first 15 miles from Sonoma (95476); then our delivery charge is based on mileage & current fuel rates (as of 8/1/9: $2.00/mile, subject to change without notification). Exact quotes are provided with your venue address.

Tips and Advice

1.  To save on wedding cake costs, ask about back-up sheet cakes.  These can also be cut just prior to the cake cutting ceremony, in order to serve guests immediately after you cut the cake.

2.  Small cakes can be placed on top of risers for additional height (risers placed under tablecloth).

3.  Ask if your Baker will charge extra if you choose more than one cake flavor, or for using a shape other than round.

4.  Ask about delivery & set-up charges, as well as cake cutting fees (if you are using a Catering service, they will normally include cake cutting).

5.  Ask how long in advance the cake is baked and if it is ever frozen.
