About
I'm a photojournalist, born and raised in Northern California and currently based in Phoenix, AZ (although I return home often). I'm unobtrusive, and know how to use professional gear and off-camera flash to achieve honest, natural results that convey the feel of your wedding day.

My photography experience is pretty varied - I've been shooting food lately for some Scottsdale restaurants and for reviews, and I have had the pleasure of working with models, at political events, in a working paintball arena, from a kayak on a cenote (water-filled cave) in Cancun, and at a destination wedding in India. I like to think that this variety contributes to my wedding coverage - why not book a professional who can provide magazine-cover-worthy food, portrait, and event photos? I look forward to hearing from you.

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
I offer black-and-white and color, as well as sepia toning and hand-coloring. My photography moves.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
My newspaper and magazine photography experience has been in a variety of lighting situations. I am comfortable shooting in candlelight, and I am comfortable providing both soft and high key lighting effects, depending on the bride's preference.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I shoot with professional digital gear. I am confident with medium format film as well, if the bride prefers that I use film.

How many photographers do you work with?
I have a small network of photojournalists that I use as second photographers. I can provide a female second shooter, or one with portrait experience or event experience.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
If I am hired, I will cover the event. My contract has provisions for illness.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
I never book myself for more than one wedding in a day.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
I typically use a second shooter, and have a network of replacements who would be able to shoot in the event of illness.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
I shoot with professional Canon gear - an EOS 1D Mk II, 20D for backup, fast prime lenses for low-light situations, and several off-camera flashes, softboxes, light stands, and other accessories.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes. I once had a shutter blade break on my camera (a $600 repair) in the middle of a ceremony, and I was able to finish the wedding and get portfolio-worthy photos with my backup camera.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
I don't like to charge by the hour, I find it unprofessional to put a bride on a schedule. My fee covers a full day of shooting.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
My background shooting for newspapers and magazines, as well as on commercial shoots, has rarely allowed for breaks. I don't require them and prefer to stay on my feet and document every angle of your wedding.

Do you charge for travel?
I do charge for travel. I don't require first-class accommodations, but in my destination wedding experience, I can provide better coverage if I am staying in the same hotel as the wedding party.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
I like to have proofs ready within one or two weeks - I like to have them available to the couple after their honeymoon.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
I can provide proofs on DVD-ROM, on a private web gallery, or on contact sheets.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
The couple can keep the proofs indefinitely. I prefer to get feedback and do custom edits within the month after the wedding.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
I provide all rights to reprint the photos to the bride and groom.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
I reserve the right to use the photos for self-promotion and advertising. I have had wedding photos printed in magazines, and will contact the bride and groom if an arrangement like this needs to be made.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
I provide digital files to the couple for reprinting. I also provide a wide variety of printed options.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes. I generally have the photos uploaded to a private online gallery within one to two weeks.

What kind of albums do you offer?
I offer a custom-designed hardcover book (I work with a newspaper designer to put these together), as well as more traditional album options.

When will the client get the final album?
The final book will typically be designed and delivered within six or seven weeks.
