About
Lone Pine Photography is first and foremost geared towards wedding photography, though between weddings I've been known to grab some gear and drive around until something inspired me.  But I just really love shooting weddings.  A couple in love, on the biggest day of their lives, and they want me to document the event!  It doesn't get any better than that!  I instill a great deal of passion in my work, and that passion is expressed in the shots I get. The end result in the photos presented is only part of what I bring to the table. I genuinely enjoy weddings. The pomp and circumstance, the romance, and the simple fact that it is the biggest party that a couple will ever throw inspires me to go beyond just collecting a paycheck and getting the standard shots. I have a bit of envy for the subjects, and by documenting them, I can live it as well.  Okay, so I'll admit I'm a romantic, so sue me.  Wouldn't you rather have someone like me shooting your wedding, celebrating it along side you, than someone else who might be nervous, or tired, or would rather be somewhere else?  I wouldn't either!

I insist on doing engagement shots before the wedding, a service I provide for free as an incentive for the bride and groom to go through the additional sitting, AND I'll give them 3 free prints for allowing me to do it. I do this to begin and foster an emotional connection with the couple: I need that in order to celebrate the wedding not as a stranger to the couple, but as a person who truly feels joy for their union. Being emotionally connected allows me to get the shots a paycheck photographer won’t even think to get. The competence aside, there are many photographers that don’t want any part of weddings because they find them too stressful — the shots are candid and there are no do-overs. Because of the way I see weddings, and because I celebrate them, shooting them is a joy.

I also show this love for weddings by not worrying over the intellectual property that most photographers primarily concern themselves with because I celebrate the wedding alongside the bride and groom. I become a part of their wedding and lives, not just an interloper.  I provide a disk of high-resolution images they are welcome to have prints made from, or they can order prints from me.

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Contemporary, Photojournalism, Portraiture, Traditional / Posed

What do your packages include?
Digital Files, High Resolution Images, Matted Prints, Negatives, Prints, Proof CD of All Images

Do you have liability insurance?
Yes

Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
I don't hand-color anything, but luckily I work in the digital medium and there's this snazzy program Adobe makes called photoshop, and I love it!

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
Sure. Some are more trying that others, some venues aren't appropriate for flash, but most everything can be worked around. And I have the equipment for it.

Is your media preference film or digital?
Digital all the way. I'm sure there are some purists out there still shooting film, but most of them are covering 50th anniversaries of their first wedding clients.

How many photographers do you work with?
I'm a one man shop, but there are other professionals I enjoy and admire. If the wedding called for it, I would have no problem bringing them in.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Short of dysentery, the bubonic plague, or my untimely death, I will be there if I'm booked the same way I wouldn't miss my brother or my daughter's wedding. I'm not a paycheck photographer.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
When I don't have a wedding on the books, I shoot elopements. I give elopements breaks on pricing because they don't need the same amount of coverage (about an hour or so), and I've done three elopements in one day. But if you hire me for your wedding, that will be the only thing I shoot that day.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
I've never been unavailable for a hired wedding, maybe I'm just lucky that way, but I have a lot of peers in photography that I would trust to do a competent job, though it would break my heart to turn something over to someone else.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Primary camera body, back-up camera body, primary zoom lenses, back-up prime lenses, 2 on camera flashes, and some studio strobe flashes just in case my ego starts getting the best of me...

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Definitely! I also bring bobby pins, Tide pens, diaper pins, needle and black and white thread, and a couple of airline tequila bottles just in case the bride needs anything.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
I prefer to charge full day, but sometimes brides (and budgets) only allow for 4-6 hours. I still wanna shoot the wedding, so I'll accomodate.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
I'm always available for more time, and I'm not a clock watcher either. But I'm not going to spend 10 hours on a 4 hour shoot. Overtime beyond one hour is $300 per hour.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
How many breaks? Well, my bladder's pretty durable, but usually on an as needed basis, I guess. During 12 hours, maybe 2 or 3?

Do you charge for travel?
Depends on the time and cost involved. I have a passport and all it takes is an excuse to use it...

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
I've usually got at least a few images ready within a few hours of the event. The basic shots are up on my websites within a couple of days, and the more artistic shots are up by the end of the week.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
The initial proofs are usually viewed online, only because I've never had a bride request print proofs. But I could if requested.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
The proofs in any form belong to the Bride. They hired me as a creative fee shooter, so in perpetuity.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
I do retain the copyright to the photos, but only because I don't want someone else taking credit for my work or my eye for photography. The bride and groom are welcome to print, display, and use their wedding pictures however they like, but I retain the license for all images taken.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
I do, unless I'm asked to sign a nondisclosure agreement prior to the booking, in which case I'm then shooting as a work for hire photographer.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Yep.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes, private or public according to the bride's wishes just in case there are images she wants removed.

What kind of albums do you offer?
In the initial booking, there is typically no discussion of wedding albums, but I'm accomodating and will do whatever the client wishes and is willing to pay for.

When will the client get the final album?
I outsource. Within 2 months depending on the bride.

Tips and Advice

First, relax.  This is your wedding day.  Realize up front that you have no control over the weather, your family, or his family.  If you make the decision ahead of time that you are going to enjoy your wedding instead of stressing over it, 9 times out of 10 you will enjoy it, and that's the most important thing.

Second, hire a professional wedding planner.  They are paid to stress the details so you don't have to.  And they cost less than you think because they know a deal when they see it and they understand value because they've managed dozens of weddings.  Not only that, but some planners get discounts for you from vendors equaling much more than the fee paid for their services.  If you want some suggestions, please let me know and I'll be happy to share my opinions on good planners in my area whether you hire me or not.  If you don't want to hire a planner, assign someone other than your mother to run the show.  Have someone else there to manage the details of your day allowing you to remember it, and enjoy it.

Third, if you do hire me, I'll have all kinds of ways you can enhance your imagery, and make your wedding more memorable in your guests eyes.  Make some time for me, and not just when I'm behind the camera.  It's time well spent, and it's free.
