Frequently Asked Questions for DJ
What music genres are in your collection?
Country, Dance, Funk, Motown, Oldies, Pop, R&B, Rock, Soul, Swing
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes
Describe your DJ style:
Sophisticated MC. Each event is unique in it's approach. I do not play a list of the same songs at every wedding I do. I work directly with you to decide the music that reflects who YOU are. I also react to how your guests respond.
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?
No, in fact during our consultation you will find that I encourage you to choose as much music as you would like. This helps to "tailor" the reception so that it reflects "who" you are.
What is your usual attire?
You have a choice of what I wear, a Sport Coat, Dress Suit or Tuxedo. However, I usually wear all black so that I can "disappear." Your reception is about YOU and not me.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
No - I have the availability to get all the music you ask for. I can download any song while at the reception.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
2 hours.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
I usually insist upon it. It is best that you see who I am and get a feel for what kind of personality you are looking to hire.
Can the client submit a do-not-play list?
Absolutely. I always ask if there are any songs that you really don't want played during "your" day.
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes. 2 JBL SRX725 Speakers, Mackie Mixing Board, Crown XTi 4000 series Power Amp, 2 iPods with 14,000 songs on each one, and access to thousands more songs on site.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
Up Lighting. These are lights that are placed around the reception room and shine UP the walls to add an elegant accent to the room. I also have Gobo Lights that can project your initials on the dance floor or wall.
I also have 9 more lights and a mirror ball available that bring a vibrant exciting feel to the dance floor.
I also have Laser lights and fog machines that add dimension to the evening.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
I usually allow myself 2 hours to be set up and ready for your special day.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
None. I do not require a table to work with.
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?
No. This reception is NOT about me. It is all about YOU.
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
I am a sophisticated MC, I only speak when there is something to be said. Otherwise, the music does all the talking. I put as much respect into your day as possible
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?
36 years of working crowds via the music comes into play here. Your money is not paying for the equipment and music as much as it is paying for the expertise I have acquired in all these years. I know how to move a crowd...there is no question for me anymore.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
I take no breaks. I do not require a meal break. I actually prefer NOT to eat during your event.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?
Only if there is ample time between events to properly take care of all aspects of set up and break down of equipment. I will NOT slide in at the last minute.
What is your overtime rate?
200.00 per hour
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
No. I have to get there anyway if I want to host the reception. Seems rather silly to charge for it.
What is the required deposit to secure your services?
One Third the total amount is due to secure the date. It is non refundable. This will be deducted from total amount of the event.

Additional Answers & Advice:
Your reception is the
time after your big day to say thank you to your friends, family and guests for attending your special event. Please don’t hire just "any" dj to fill this time. Make sure the talent you choose is up to YOUR standards. Make a point to meet with them and find out who they are and what they can provide for you. Otherwise, you just may get someone brand new to this form of entertainment.
You want to make sure you give your guests a great Party to celebrate the time they have invested in you for the day. This is the payoff for the day. |
