I feel strongly that the marriage couple should choose an officiant with whom they are comfortable. They should definitely meet with the officiant before making any decision. The experience and flexibility of the officiant are essential.

Tips and Advice

The wedding ceremony will be the most important part of one of the most important days of your life. You should never choose a wedding officiant until you have met with the officiant. Only after the meeting and, perhaps in the privacy of your home, should you make the decision. There should be no cost or obligation for the first meeting. and you should expect it to last at least an hour and in a place where you can speak freely. When you first talk with the officiant by phone, you should ask about  the officiant's background and how much freedom you will have in shaping your ceremony. Only after these questions, should you ask for the price of the services. The cheapest officiant will not always be the best one.
