- John & Colette

about ...
John and I met on the set of a catalog/fashion shoot. I was the hired makeup artist, he was shooting the campaign. We were married four years later. Our destination wedding inspired us to combine our skills in photography and beauty specifically for weddings. We started as Illuminated Bride for photography & beauty and just recently changed over to using our first names. Eighteen years in the fashion and advertising side of our respective fields has taken us around the world from the South Pacific to Nepal working on documentaries, television commercials and editorials. We bring our extensive experience in photography, makeup and hair to every wedding we photograph.

Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Photojournalism

What do your packages include?
Digital Files, High Resolution Images, Prints

Do you have liability insurance?
Yes

Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
We never just shoot and hand over your images. They're skillfully edited and color adjusted (b/w or sepia toning) for a beautiful collection of images with a professional and artistic presentation.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
John is our principal photographer he has 20 years experience in photography, he is also a director of photography (D.P.) and lighting director on commercials. His lighting experience is extensive. His travels have put his talents to the test under many different conditions. Please read his bio at our About page.

Is your media preference film or digital?
In the past John used strictly film he stayed loyal to this medium in the first few years of the digital boom, he finally made his transition to digital when he photographed a wedding in India. This was an intense 3 day event with many different rituals, lit only by firelight. It was then that he fully appreciated the range of capture that digital was able to perceive. With film many of the images would have just been too dark but because of the advancements in digital technology all of the images were there in their rich beauty. Digital has come a long way and if you have an experienced photographer that understands both film and digital you can rest assured that your imagery will have the beauty of film with the range of capture using digital. It is by far the way to go, it was not an easy sell for a photographer that started with film but digital eventually proved its worthiness.

How many photographers do you work with?
We typically have 2 cameras at every wedding we photograph. Colette will most often take second camera when the days beauty schedule permits. We also have a select pool of photographers that meet our high standards of gracious personal manner and professionalism as well as artistic and technical ability (of course)

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes, we are the principal artists.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
Never in the same day. Very rarely do we take 2 weddings in the same weekend! It all depends on the logistics and timing. We like a happy work flow as much as our clients do! Our reputation depends on it.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, absolutely.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Absolutely without fail!

Do you charge hourly or full day?
We tailor our packages to suit the wishes of the bride and groom.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Dinner is usually our only true break, a wedding is constantly moving for us and we do not have much time to sit back and relax, we are "on" or we may miss out. With this said we are very aware to stay unobtrusive.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes.

Tips and Advice

Beauty:
Don’t try anything new 3-4 weeks before the wedding (products, facials, cuts, colors or waxing -if new to it) Have your last facial 10 days before the event but have a series of facials up until then. Facials tend to leave the skin ’polished’ for several days, like a mirrored surface, making it difficult to blend foundation, facials also bring up impurities that may take 10 days to completely dissappear. Regular sweaty exercise and drinking PLENTY of pure spring water make for a glowing complexion. Do have a trial run with your makeup & hair pros even if you have worked with them before don’t assume they know what you are visualizing for your wedding, your time getting-ready is an ideal time for relaxation and reprieve from all the bustle of activity and decision making. Know what to expect and enjoy this time before the ceremony.

Photography:
Choosing a photographer can be overwhelming but only if you are not sure about what to look for. Ask about after the wedding costs, like print prices and if you feel pressured its not the right choice. Listen to your heart, the way you feel is always telling! Oh ... and please consider having a professional wedding planner they are really and truly invaluable, a good place to spend dollars because the return is so huge! Vendors rely on a good coordinator as much as you will. Hire a pro so you can relax and be present .
All the best!
