Frequently Asked Questions for DJ

50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Acoustic, Big Band, Classic Rock, Classical, Country, Dance, Folk, Funk, Gospel, Hip Hop, Jazz, Motown, Oldies, Orchestra, Pop, Punk Rock, R&B, Rock, Soul, Strings, Swing, World

Do you have liability insurance?
Yes

Describe your DJ style:
Our DJ style is always professional and well organized. We understand the importance of your special day and we never take the spotlight from the bride and groom. We only make the professional announcements that the bride and groom ask of us. Your wedding success is our success as your DJs.

What is your usual attire?
We dress according to what our clients desire. We own tuxedos, suits, standard wedding service attire (black slacks and white long sleeve collared shirts), or can dress for a special theme. In the case of a unique theme we will work with the bride to find attire to match her vision. This is the only instance that may incur an additional charge for our attire.

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
We do not require that our clients provide songs that we may not have unless in the rare event we cannot buy them. We only purchase high quality music so that we know that there will not be any audio issues at the wedding.

How many other DJs do you work with?
Jered and Ollie are the owners of GenXpro. We are your DJs from the first meeting to the end of the reception. We will never hire anyone in our place. We are members of multiple DJ specific organizations and we network with many of the top wedding DJs in our area.

What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
We don't have a minimum amount of time that we will DJ for. We have standard time packages of 4, 5, and 6 hour time blocks but can custom quote a time package that is longer or shorter than those.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Of course! We love to meet with the bride so that we can understand the vision of her wedding. We feel that it is a very special and personal event and we want our clients to feel confident about our service.

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
We are very experienced with traditional weddings but are learning from other DJs the awesome traditions of different cultures.

Do you bring your own equipment?
We always bring our own equipment because we rely only on our own equipment.

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
We do offer a unique laser that has been very popular among brides for their first dance and special dances. This effect is amazing technology and there is a video of it on our page and on our web site. If you have any questions about it we would be happy to answer them.

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
We require only one hour for setup. We do require the site or couple to provide a banquet table for us to set our equipment on.

Do you have any extra space requirements?
GenXpro only needs space for two speaker stands and a banquet table for our gear under most conditions.

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
We do emcee what is asked of us prior to the wedding. The bride and groom are always welcome to tell us to make announcements during the reception that they need us to make on the spot. We do not make any announcement requests from anyone else at the wedding unless approved by the bride or groom.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We eat when you and your guests eat while playing cocktail of dinner music that you desire. We don't require you provide a meal for us but we ask that you let us know in advance so that we can provide our own meal accommodations.

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
We always play pre-recorded music at weddings unless a bride specifically requests us to mix records for her wedding.

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
With two of us you don't have to worry about meeting some new DJ on your wedding day. We work as a team to give our clients 100% peace of mind.

What is your overtime rate?
Our overtime rate is $150.00 per hour over the specified time on the contract. We will gladly play 30 minutes over the time on the contract so that the music and energy level can mellowed down without any additional charge. After 30 minutes and the approval of the bride or groom we can keep the music going for the per hour overtime rate charge.

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
We only charge a small travel expense if the wedding is 75 miles beyond our city base. We do charge a small travel expense if the reception is beyond walking distance from the ceremony site and we have to repack and move our equipment. This is only if we are providing service for both the ceremony and reception.

Tips and Advice
Booking your DJ 6 months in advance is a great way to secure them for your wedding date. If they are good at what they do they will start to book at the beginning of the year for the summer. Don't settle for a less reputable DJ, book yours as soon as you can afford to. A great DJ can help make the event, a bad one can break it!
