Frequently Asked Questions
How would you identify your photographic style? Romantic Photojournalism. A blend of modern techniques with roots in classic "Decisive Moment" photography. Fotografz provides extensive candid coverage coupled with unparalleled quality in formal imagery using commercial level equipment usually reserved for fashion and advertisng work.
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning? We offer color, B&W and toned imagery, with a mastery of Photoshop that is applied to all images, not just album selects.
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations? All lighting situations. Fotografz is also a commercial photography studio with full lighting tools available for any situation.
Is your media preference film or digital? We primarily shoot with digital cameras, but are well versed in film use, and have the highest quality film scanners available to convert film to digital.
How many photographers do you work with? One primary and one secondary. Have an association with two other highly experienced photographers for times when two primary shooters are required.
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event? Marc Williams shoots every wedding personally. It's that unique vision and approach Fotografz is providing. For weddings requiring two prime photographers, the second shooter is selected for complementary talent and vision.
Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one wedding in a day? Weekend? Your wedding day is booked exclusively for you.
Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the wedding day? Two prime shooters as back-up.
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of? Three professional level, high resolution DSLRs including dual card capture to help assure no image loss due to card media failure. Also use super high resolution Medium Format Digital cameras that are more frequently found in Fashion and Commercial studios.
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction? See above.
Do you charge hourly or full day? We often develop custom packages based on a client's specific needs. Packages start as low as $1,300. A PDF of current packages and price guide lines will be sent in response to any inquiry. Each wedding has different needs and timing, and we work to accomidate most any need and budget.
If hourly, are you available for shooting overtime? If so, how much do you charge for overtime? Fotografz provides the option for an extra hour pro-rated based on he package selected ... which covers photographer(s), assistant, and all additional processing and printing. We work with the client to build a realistic itinerary to avoid the need for overtime. Clients need not commit to additional hours upon booking us, and can make that decision on the day of the wedding.
Do you require a meal break? If yes, do you require that the wedding party provide your meal? Typically we ask to be fed and included in the main dining area so we can continue shooting while the B&G visit tables.
How many breaks do you usually take throughout the day? Only when the time is right do we ever take any break, and then only for a few minutes.
Do you charge for travel? Depends on the distance and destination. Out of State or any over-night stay usually requires expenses be paid. However, I often use airline miles to help defray the costs, and if it is a destination wedding, have occasionally coupled some vacation time to the wedding which can help minimize travel and lodging. We have shot weddings in LA, Miami, Houston, San Diego, Milwaukee ... in some cases these were the weddings of other wedding photographers.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing? We guarantee everything will be delivered with-in 90 days, e-proofs can be posted with-in 2 weeks maximum. I'm usually done correcting and retouching with-in a week. Unlike some others, we correct all "keeper" images to be print ready. This is done because all images are provided to the client for unlimited personal use, so they have to be print ready.
In what format are the initial proofs offered? We can e-post images on a site like Smug-Mug, and we provide DVDs with each package. Some clients get 13"X19" contact sheets with 40 to 80 images per sheet. For most weddings we now provide all images on a USB jump drive for portability and easy access to everything on any computer.
How long can the couple keep the proofs? We give all images to the clients for unlimited personal useage.
Do you retain the copyright for the photos? Yes, to protect against unauthorized use by anyone other than the client or Fotografz
Do you reserve the right to publish the photos? Yes, but only for self promotion and educational purposes. Any request to keep images private is honored and stated as such in the contract.
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the couple? Yes. All corrected digital files are provided to the client for unlimited personal use. If film is used, then the negs and the scans are provided.
Will images be available for viewing on an online gallery? This is an option.
What kind of albums do you offer? Typically we use traditional slip-in mat type leather albums which are archival quality ... but we have access and information to use any album maker including coffee table type books or archival presentation portfolios.
When will I get the final book? If we make the album using the traditional type slip-in matted print technique we guaranteed completition with-in 90 days of the wedding. We have never taken that long yet. Albums and packages are usually complete with-in a month ... and many are ready by the time the couple returns from Honeymoon.
How long does it take to deliver a book? If outside vendors for coffee table type albums are used, we are subject to their delivery schedule.

Tips and Advice
You deserve photos that expresses your unique personality, not a homogenized one. When meeting with prospective wedding photographers ask to see a number of different weddings to determine if the personality of the clients is apparent as opposed to a cookie cutter style where each wedding looks basically the same ......
Be absolutely sure your photographer has back-up equipment ... and preferably back-up to the back-up. A wedding is a one time chance. Many newbies only have one camera and one flash. My preference is to use a Professional DSLR that shoots the same image to two digital capture cards simultaneously. This is additional insurance against digital capture card corruption or failure ......
Share your itinerary with your photographer as soon as you can. Quite often Brides can get a bit ambitious as to timings allocated for certain "must have" shots. I've even had a few clients that forgot to put in transit time from the church to the reception : -) ......
Have a Bridesmaid or Mom bring a little emergency kit ... a small sewing kit for dress repair, a tube of super glue just in case you break a heal, towelettes, aspirin, and breath mints .....
Be sure to hydrate in the AM, but for obvious reasons only a few sips an hour before the ceremony ......
If you are thinking of taking formal images prior to the Ceremony consider this: "Before" is usually the most nerve racking time of a wedding. If things go late it usually starts before the Ceremony and snowballs from there. More importantly, people are often more stiff and rigid prior to walking down the aisle than after they are officially married. That preoccupied demeanor or stiffness can often be seen in some photos no matter how good the photographer is at relaxing people. It's just a thought to keep in mind.
