About

Fluffy Thoughts Bakery was conceived in the year 2000, when a friend suggested that owner Lara Stuckey combine her two passions, art and baking, into a real business. Lara fell in love with baking at the tender age of five, producing her first creations from an EZ Bake Oven. She found the opportunity to bake at any occasion, experimenting with different flavors and textures. While in graduate school, Lara pursued a more structured baking experience, working part-time at DC based bakery Cakelove. While at Cakelove, Lara observed the bakery business first-hand, and attributes much of her training under local entrepreneur and baker Warren Brown.

With a talent and background in art, Lara infuses sculpture, color, and design into each cake, and customizes her creations based on customer requests. Having participated in several cake decorating courses, most recently with world- renowned cake designer Colette Peters of Colette’s Cakes in New York City, and a Fundamental Pastry Techniques Course at L’Academie de Cuisine, Lara continues to perfect her skills as a cake baker and decorator. She bakes all of her cakes in a licensed kitchen out of her home.

Fluffy thoughts is THE PLACE to get your cake! When my couples tell me they are getting a cake from F.T.'s I get really excited! Not only are they beautiful works of art, but they taste soooo good. One of my favorite vendors to work with.
Fluffy Thoughts created a master piece of a wedding cake for my wedding, Lara sat with me and step by step we came up with a fabulous design for the wedding cake. I must say people are still talking about that cake a year into the marriage!
Working with Lara is a breeze! From a wedding planner's perspective, she's punctual on wedding days, prompt with correspondence, and makes brides very happy with her cakes. I've never seen an imperfect cake come from her and I'm sure she spends countless hours making each cake just how the bride wants it. The tastings are fun too -- she gives samples of about 8-10 flavors of cake and 8-10 flavors of fillings. Then you mix and match! Be sure you don't eat lunch that day and be prepared for a sugar high. I would recommend Lara and Fluffy Thoughts to any bride looking for a cake baker. You can't lose!

Tips and Advice
- Before going to a cake tasting try to have your reception location, flowers, colors, and wedding theme set. All those help with the design of your cake.

- If you see pictures of cakes that interest you in magazines or online, cut them or print them out and bring them with you to the tasting.

- Knowing your menu at the wedding can help narrow down your flavor options. For example, if you are having a Medditerranean themed dinner, a pistachio cake with rose water buttercream and pistachio meringues between the layers would finish off the meal nicely. A white cake with fresh blacberry buttercream and passionfruit curd always hits the spot on a summer day.
