Vic, the owner, is fantastic to work with. He's very easy-going, but very professional, too. I've worked with him on multiple occasions and would recommend him and Elite Entertainment for any event, especially weddings.
I have worked many weddings with Vic and he is one of my favorite DJs. His smile lights up the room, he is calm on the surface yet builds energy and excitement with his music. A super professional and a true partner in the industry. Please call Elite and ask for Vic.

Describe your DJ style:
All of our DJs have varying styles of mixing and MC'ing, but the goal is to match you up with just the right person that you feel comfortable with and is accustom to performing the way you want him to.

What is your usual attire?
Professional attire: Tuxedo or Suit. However we can dress it down

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
We make sure to handle the music as professionally as possible. We have a library with Millions of songs, and Millions available at a moment's notice. However, for those specialty songs or personal records that aren't available to us, we do request the couple provide it before the wedding so we don't have to worry about a special CD being forgotten on the day-of.

How many other DJs do you work with?
13+ (We work with an extended network of DJs for those very demanding days...like 7/7/07)

What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
3 hours

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
We encourage that our Brides and Grooms come to meet with their DJ before booking our services, because we want to make sure we are a good fit for each other, and everyone's expectations for the wedding are the same.

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
We have 3 Spanish Bilingual DJs on staff, and many of our DJs are familiar with many cultures and traditions whether they be Jewish, Chinese, Italian, Hindu, etc.

Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes. We use only professional grade equipment to limit reliability issues and increase the quality for our couples.

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
We do offer Gobo lighting (a custom image or monogram projected on any surface), indoor or outdoor Up lighting, and dance floor lighting.

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
We alway plan ahead for our events, and we provide 1 hour of setup time as part of our services complimentary. We do request a 6 foot table from the facility or your rental company, but if this isn't an option, we can bring our own.

Do you have any extra space requirements?
The space of a 6 foot table, and 2 speakers on tripods. In the addition of lighting, other stands may be required.

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
Your DJ will be your MC for your event, unless otherwise requested. Each DJ has their own MC'ing technique, but it is our goal to not be that DJ that is annoyingly talkative over the microphone. We have enough experience with weddings that we know what is necessary and what is excess.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We do not require a meal break. It is the Bride and Groom's option to provide their DJ with a meal. Wedding meals can be amazingly expensive, so we want to be sensitive to that. We want to make sure you get a quality DJ, rather than a sub-par DJ that requires a meal.

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
Yes

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Absolutely! We'll keep in constant contact with you before the wedding day. If anything were to happen to your DJ, we would notify you about the change in status and invite you to meet with your new DJ. For anything that might happen on the day of your event, we have DJs standing by to make sure no event receives less than the best service. We also carry backup systems for each event.

What is your overtime rate?
$100/hour (can be determined the day of the wedding)

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
If the event is outside of Santa Clara County, we do charge for travel, but this is built into our cost structure. We're not going to stick you with our gas bill :-)

Tips and Advice
The iPod question and the Wedding DJ

For many couples, booking a DJ or any entertainment is very new or even scary territory.  Most everyone has purchased flowers, decorated their kitchen table, and tried on fancy dresses/suits.  The first thought some couples have when considering the music portion of their event is to simply rent a sound system and hook an ipod up to it.  We all do it at home, and it seems to work great...right?

Some things are perfect for the scale in which they were intended.  An iPod is a personal music device with limited functionality that can be attached to a larger sound system, but it does not have the capability to transition music smoothly or make announcements.  That sound system at home that you can hook your iPod up to can be talked over very easily, as it was intended to, and the clicking noise of the iPod is not a big deal.  When a professional sound system is going during the dancing of your wedding, that clicking noise becomes an annoyance and very distracting.

Also, in dealing with an iPod at home can almost be a joy as you have full controll over what you hear and for how long.  On your wedding day, you'll have so many things going on at once that you might forget to eat.  Along with your photo being taken constantly and family chatting with you through the night, you will want to focus on enjoying the evening.  It's a celebration for you and your fiance about love and finding that one in a billion person...not what song is coming up next.

For most couples, a professional caterer, photographer and florist are not out of the question.  I wonder why some couples choose to leave some of the most passive parts of their wedding up to professionals, and then some of the most important stuff up to novices.  Every wedding starts with a date and a location, to satisfy our visual needs.  Then usually a caterer fulfills our taste sensors.  Florists provide the smells of the occasion and the photographer captures the event as it is happening.  But one thing that we don't think about is what we are listening to on a constant basis.  Music sets the mood for every situation, whether it be at work, the mall, or at home.  Yes, an iPod could fill this roll very easily, but it is the other things during your wedding day that the iPod or a friend may fall short on.

Professional Wedding DJs are generally a combination of your typical Radio DJ and your Club DJ.  With the ability to fluidly make announcements and introductions throughout the evening (usually with a soothing voice to boot), you and your fiance will have to worry less about what is being said and more about how delicious the main entree is.  A professional wedding DJ takes care of those detail things that always seem to come up on the wedding day itself, and thus making sure you get to enjoy yourself as much as possible.  The dancing portion of the night is really where the wedding DJ shines.  By encouraging crowd participation and interest in each event, whether it be the first dance, bouquet toss or the cake cutting, really helps to show off all the hard work you put into planning your wedding.  And when the music starts is where a true professional shows his worth.  No one is wedding is the same because no event has the same group of people attending each time.  This makes for varied playlists and requests that the DJ will have to adapt to and make to fit your event timeline.

iPods are great little devices that most DJs keep with them as a last resort measure.  But depending on what you are looking for from your wedding, in terms of organization and fluidity, a DJ can be just as excessive, just as an iPod can be inadequate.  Before looking into price, choose what style of event you want to hold for your family and friends.  iPods are a great cheap option, but most weddings need more than iPod can provide that a Professional Wedding DJ can more than handle.

Hiring a Wedding DJ is another tricky task.  Since most haven't hired any form of entertainment in their lives, finding a quality DJ is the hardest part.  Because so many people love to play DJ at home with their iTunes and their MP3's, there are a lot of self-proclaimed Wedding DJs around.  For your safety and piece of mind, here are some requirements that make a DJ a truely Professional Wedding DJ:
~Professional Equipment:  Without the tools of the trade, your DJ can't do much.
~Appearance:  You are looking for someone to not only attend your wedding, but supliment it.  They have to look the part.
~Liability Insurance:  Should anything happen to you or one of your guests, you should be covered.  Only professionals carry this to protect you.
~Experience and References:  Being any type of DJ doesn't make for a good Wedding DJ at all.  References give credibility if you can contact them.
~Dedication:  A true professional is someone who dedicated their life to their craft.  If your DJ has an office location, this helps to know his is a true professional.
~Professionalism:  This is the manner in which your DJ conducts himself.  DJs often add humor when speaking with potential clients to lighten the mood, but if at any point you feel that it is inappropriate, it's a sure sign that he might not be appropriate for you and your guests.
~Contracts:  Always get what you need in writing.  A professional with always do this to protect you and themselves.

The Knot did a study some time back that determined most couples wished they had spent more money on the entertainment for their wedding.  This is not to say spend all of your wedding budget on your DJ and expect miracles, but keep everything in balance.  A good estimate is about 5% of your wedding budget.  It may seem like a lot, but for a person that provides the mood, information, and fun to your wedding, it's a priceless investment just like the rest of your wedding.  You'll end up spending more for this DJ service when compared to any ol' DJ, but a Professional Wedding DJ will make sure your wedding is truely spectacular.
