Describe your DJ style:
Here goes--The latest Top 40, Reggae, Retro, Hip Hop, Dance, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Indian, Country, Funk, 80's, Oldies, 50s, 60s, 40s, Soca, Calypso, Blues, Classic Rock, Big Band, Pop, Old School, Flaminco, Lounge, Dance Hall, Easy Listening, World Beat...whatever you wish. You name it!
What is your usual attire?
Tropical Resort Casual is the norm on St Thomas--dress shoes, dress slacks and a nice tropical dress shirt--but I can go full on formal if someone wants that.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
I can source almost anything, however, if it's extremely rare and the bride has it, it makes my life easier--but if she doesn't have it, I set out to find it.
How many other DJs do you work with?
I have three guys on island I refer back and forth with--mostly to cover club gigs. I don't trade off on weddings.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
A 3 Hour Minimum is required on Fridays and Saturdays, weekdays I can chop it down to two hours depending on availablity. I recommend 3 hours if you are eating, cutting cake, doing toasts and want to have what feels like enough dance time.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Absolutely.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
Absolutely. It's one of my strongest points.
Do you bring your own equipment?
Everything is included. Speakers, mixer, music, digital music player, professional CD player, 1 corded mic with stand, 1 wireless mic...the works. You need not worry about anything. It's all there. I even have an audio out port for your videographer so the sound is crystal clear and full stereo for your videos.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
I do have a small light pack I can bring if requested. It's not obstrusive, but it does require quite a bit of extra work, so there is a small fee involved, unless someone books a long amount of time and sometimes I'll comp it in those cases.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
I have tables and covers which match almost any motif, but if the venue wants to skirt everything to match, that's fine too!
Do you have any extra space requirements?
Any space that is at least 8 feet long, 4 feet in width. In the event the party is outside, some sort of cover or overhang is requested.
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
Yes.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
I usually eat before the event.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
If needed, yes.
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, although it would be a MAJOR illness if I needed them for that. I like to be the one doing my own events.
What is your overtime rate?
I don't have one, if anything, it gets cheaper the longer you go!
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
St Thomas requires no travel charge. St John requires a car ferry pass ($50) and an overnight hotel stay which is $200. I charge $250 for St John in addition to the normal fee, and it's something that all goes to expenses. I make no profit on that portion.
