Frequently Asked Questions for DJ
Describe your DJ style:
The success of your event is extremely important to me. I will conduct myself professionally and will go to great lengths to see that your wishes for your event are met. I consider myself somewhere in the middle of the scale of how quiet or outgoing a person can be. I am not shy but do not try to steal the spotlight. I encourage my customers to be an active part of the planning process for their event, meeting one-on-one and communicating by phone and email to come up with just the right playlist that suits their taste in music. Should you wish for games to be played or more interaction with your guests, that is not a problem and we will be happy to oblige your requests.

What is your usual attire?
For your wedding reception, I will always be dressed appropriately in a black suit with tie unless you request me to wear a tuxedo in which case an additional charge will be necessary to cover the cost of a rental.

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
No. With our constantly growing computer database of music, chances are I will have the song you want to hear. If it is not in our inventory of music I will obtain it if at all possible. If that cannot be done, the couple may provide it if they are able to do so.

How many other DJs do you work with?
Currently I work with another DJ (Mixmaster Chris from Party Patrol Disc Jockeys) who serves as a backup in the event of illness or emergency on my part. Beginning in 2009 a new member will be added to our team as a DJ-in-training, helping in setting up the equipment and assisting in every other capacity until we feel he is capable of performing solo.

What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
Our minimum time is normally four hours although exceptions are made for shorter periods. Maximum time is negotiable.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Yes. This is extremely important in deciding if I am the type of DJ you are looking for. Meeting with a potential customer allows that person to have all their questions answered as to our philosophy, our equipment and experience and allows them to get a feel about whether or not they are comfortable with the person they are dealing with. As part of our committment to personal service, I will always come to you for a meeting unless you wish otherwise. No fees are charged and we will meet as many times as are necessary to insure that all your details are correct and to discuss the music you wish to be played and the order of events for your special day.

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
Not at the present time. Our focus is concentrated on weddings, anniversary parties, birthday parties and similar functions.

Do you bring your own equipment?
Absolutely. Our main system consists of Mackie SRM450 powered main speakers complemented by a Mackie SWA1501 powered subwoofer. We use a Behringer VMX1000 mixer along with our laptop and desktop computers to give your event clean, powerful sound. A backup system is on hand in the event of any equipment failure.

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
I offer a complete lighting setup including a 10' truss system, and a karaoke setup for all the future American Idols out there.

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
The more time I have to set up the better. Audio usually takes 30 to 45 minutes, lighting can take 60 to 75 minutes. I provide my own tables.

Do you have any extra space requirements?
Require enough space to comfortably handle my setup.

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
I will handle any announcements and/or introductions. Talk between songs is kept at a minimum unless the situation calls for more.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Normally, no. It depends on the length of my service and is at the wedding partys option on whether to provide the meal.

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
Not applicable.

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
I work in conjunction with mixmaster Chris from Party Patrol Disc Jockeys so a backup DJ is available.

What is your overtime rate?
1.5 times my hourly rate.

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
Only if I travel more than 45 miles to the event. Charge $50 in that situation.

Tips and Advice
My best advice when searching for a DJ would be to ask questions, ask more questions, meet with the DJ to get a feel for their personality and decide whether they will give you the personal attention you deserve. If you feel that the match is right, book early. Price alone should not determine whether the DJ you are considering is the right fit. Consider their personality, their attention to their customers wishes, and trust the feeling you come away with after your meeting.
