Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
All the images that are produced for the client are individually assessed to create the most artistic and technical image. Remember, you have to start out with a fantastic image to begin with.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
I have experience photographing on location in every lighting situation you can think of from the fashion world, weddings and other people photography genres.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I work in the digital world now and can shoot film if that is a desired medium. I prefer digital because of the incredible control I have over the creative process from shooting an image through post production.

How many photographers do you work with?
I work with one photographer who captures the behind the scenes images during a wedding. I also have access to other fashion and photojournalists should I need more coverage.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes. I am a stickler for quality and I have found that it is of paramount importance to be able to say "I am the one you will be working with." That relationship is very important.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
I typically shoot just one wedding on a weekend. It is unusual for me to double book a weekend. One per week allows me to provide the personal attention to each and every bride. You deserve that.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
I my entire career that has never happened. When I am booked for a wedding I show up...period. There is no alternative.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Four cameras, a series of lenses and lighting equipment, tripods, a 3 step ladder, reflectors and other equipment as the particular assignment requires.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Always....you are not a professional in my opinion if you do not.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
Our charges are based on a finished album for the bride. We can work out custom pricing should that be necessary to provide an alternative.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
We have overtime after 9 hours.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We have two photographers on site at every wedding. When one takes a break the other is always present. There typically is no break until the reception.

Do you charge for travel?
In this economy with travel expenses so high we do have a travel charge that is dependent upon the distance that we will travel.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
We are among the quickest in this are. Typically the custom website built for viewing the digital proofs will be ready the Tuesday after the wedding (no more that 72 hours).

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
A custom website that is accessed with a private link. A bride, their family and friends do not have to access our website to go to their private website.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
Usually a client site is up for 18 to 24 months at no additional charge. It is a free service I offer.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
I do retain the copyright to all images. In the event the client purchases the image files (camera raw files) they will have an unlimited usage and/or joint copyright to their images. So far all my brides have received their negatives and/or digital files.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes I do and in the event a particular client requests that their images not be published then I honor that request.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
They are always available for purchase on a sliding scale that is dependent on the total spent on their wedding photography.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes, a custom website is made for each bride. It is NOT a e-commerce driven sales too. It is a website that is all about the images and nothing else.

What kind of albums do you offer?
Coffee Table Book Designs are the standard. However, we can produce any type of album from any company around the world.

When will the client get the final album?
From the time that a bride's album design begins it is typically 7 to 8 weeks. I have had bride's that received their finished album in 5 months from their wedding and some that it has taken longer. It depends on when the image selection is completed.

Additional Questions and Answers

The most ignored question by most brides is..."What kind of files do you shoot with digitally?"  This is something I share with every client.  There are two types if files a photographer can use...(1) Camera Raw and (2) JPEGs.  We use exclusively camera raw files because they retain 100% of the data when the image is taken.  This will result in a superior end product whether it be for print or the Internet.  JPEG files compress when the image is taken disgarding a percentage of information.  This is not acceptable to me.  I want the best for my clients and as a professional I always shoot in camera raw.  It requires more work and this, again, results in a superior product.

The next question is what kind of camera do you use.  I use Professional level Canon Camera Systems.  The Mark III and Mark II series.  Anything less would not capture a file that meets my standards of excellence.

Tips and Advice

The most important tip for any bride is to choose a photographer that has met three criteria.

1. There must be a solid rapport so that you can communicate and enjoy each other throughout the entire experience.  Personality and ego conflicts do not belong around a wedding.  Make sure you spend enough time communicating with the actual photographer for your wedding so that  you are secure and comfortable.

2.  The style work that the photographer produces must meet your vision in every way.  Do not settle.

3. The pricing should be within your budget or close enough to it so that it does not create a burden for you.

Once you find someone that fits these three criteria you have found the match for you.  Book them so that you know you will be well taken care of on the day of your wedding.  You deserve that.  Oh, it also works for the photographer to have a PASSION for what they do as a wedding photogrgapher.
