Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Contemporary, Photojournalism

What do your packages include?
Albums, Digital Files, Flush Mount, High Resolution Images, Prints, Thank You Cards, Video Montage

Do you have liability insurance?
Yes

Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
I offer simple, elegant, story-telling album design. I do convert images to black and white if it adds to the aesthetic.

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
I have experience in every conceivable lighting situation, from non-existent, (pitch blackness) to professional stage lighting, to high-noon on the beach -- and everything in-between. I love to shoot with available light, and also have a full complement of supplementary lighting to add as needed. My lenses/cameras are great in low-light situations, which is important since many houses of worship won't allow flash photography.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I prefer digital, but will shoot film if the client requests it.

How many photographers do you work with?
For large events, I will hire a second photographer to work with me. They are all primary shooters, not apprentices, who have a style similar to mine.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Absolutely. When you hire me, you get me.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
I will NEVER double book the same day. The purpose of a retainer (booking fee) is to reserve that date for the client and no one else. I will do two weddings over the course of a weekend, but only if they are in the same general location, with no travel involved.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes. I belong to several professional forums and have access to emergency replacement lists, as well as a close network of colleagues I can call upon in an emergency. And if I have hired a second photographer in advance, that person is fully capable of carrying on as a primary.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Two cameras, several lenses and an assortment of lighting gear, as well as plenty of memory cards and batteries. I also carry a third set of complete back-up gear (another camera and primary lenses, plus lights.)

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Absolutely, see above. I also have liability insurance, which many venues are requiring of outside vendors.

Do you charge hourly or full day?
Full day, (8 hours) but custom quotes are available.

Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Yes, I'm available for OT, and the hourly rate is $150.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
One for a meal (when everyone else is eating, so not to miss any action).

Do you charge for travel?
Anything more than 75 miles incurs a travel charge.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Online viewing is up within a week -- many couples see it on their honeymoon. Paper proofs generally take two weeks to be delivered.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
Initially, online viewing. 4x6 photographic proofs in a presentation box are delivered approximately two weeks after the wedding.

How long can the client keep the proofs?
Forever.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Yes, but client has a license to print for personal use.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Digital files are included with an album purchase, and are also available a la carte.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes. Family and friends can also order reprints from the site.

What kind of albums do you offer?
Every album is custom made, and I offer flush mount as well as single image per page styles.

When will the client get the final album?
The final book is delivered 4-6 weeks after the design is approved by client.

Additional Questions and Answers
Do you back-up digital files?
Yes, images are downloaded and backed-up to two different storage devices before any editing takes place.  The memory cards are not reused until after the proofs are delivered and copies of the edited files reside in at least three different media, including an offsite location.  This helps to insure that no images are lost due to technical malfunction, natural disaster or other unforeseen circumstances.
