About Us
My children are the seventh generation of the Osborn Family to enjoy the Cat Rock hilltop. My great-grandfather built Cat Rock as a 5th wedding anniversary present to my great-grandmother. They had 76 descendants before she died in the house on their 68th wedding anniversary. I am proud that the 100-acre estate remains in our family. My father has begun to preserve the mansion while insisting that repairs be historically accurate. My mother maintains that all maintenance be eco-friendly and that our forest management, landscaping and gardening be 100% organic and sustainable. Through land conservation, the Osborn Family has preserved all of the surrounding hillsides forever. We continue to protect and preserve the Hudson Highlands through conservation easements and expansion of state parks onto family lands. (Today, the Osborn Preserve is over 3,000 acres and counting) As a result, the mountaintop enjoys unequalled panoramic Hudson River views from the Catskill Mountains to the New York City Skyline. We invite you to join our endeavor to protect this rare monument to a by-gone era. For the first time since my great-great-great-grandfather purchased the hilltop in the mid 1800s, the family is allowing others to use it for events. All event revenues directly support the historic preservation of the house. The location is unparalleled. Events are held almost entirely outdoors but guests have easy access to balconies and all three floors of the mansion. All rentals include the entrance hall, wood-paneled library with video projector, living room with 1916 Steinway piano, dining room, porches, balconies and non-overnight use of 2nd and 3rd-floor guest rooms. All restrooms are stocked with “Kiss My Face” Organic and “Seventh Generation” Recycled products. All rooms feature Osborn family antique furniture and paintings. We drive Priuses and barley print anything. When we do, it's on both sides of 100% recycled paper. We recycle and compost everything, purchase almost everything recycled, use certified enviro friendly products, CFL bulbs, Energy Star, 100% post consumer recycled promotion materials, We mill our own lumber from our own trees for preservation of the estate and use reclaimed and recyled materials and "green" paint. All of our soaps are Seventh Generation and Kiss My Face Organics.
