About
"I am dancing with my husband under a full moon, white paper lanterns are swaying back and forth in the breeze over our heads.  We have managed to steal a moment alone during this enchanted evening, but the gentle hum of our friends and family's voices still rises up and over the acres of gardens separating us from the Artisan Ballroom.  The Ballroom's peak rises above the garden and the rose-covered arch where we had gotten married only hours before, glistening in the moonlight.  Candles and twinkle lights bounce off the 45-foot glass wall and create the most magical glow, which we can still see while we are dancing under the stars.  The Mansion is empty now, the remnants of a cocktail reception strewn about on the patio.  But the Mansion's majestic old worldliness is still shining bright.  Here my husband and I are caught between two worlds—the romance of our courtship which has ended, symbolized by the Victorian Mansion, and the utter brilliance of our future symbolized by the Artisan Ballroom.  It truly was a marvelous night for a moon dance."

The Barr Mansion and Artisan Ballroom is Austin's most dedicated eco event facility pushing all boundaries.  Everything we do is meant to be beautiful, natural and sustainable.  We believe that connecting back to the earth allows us to create the most beautiful designs and most memorable events, while staying true to Mother Nature.  We constantly research and ask questions to find the best solutions to achieve the best possible special event.  It requires thinking creatively about how we do business.  It means seeking out partners who might not be the least costly in the short run or the most convenient, but who honor the best values.  It entails finding efficiencies in energy, resources and waste.  This path has led us to become the nation’s first certified organic special events venue.  We are one of a kind.

The Artisan Ballroom is a fusion of all these concepts applied to building design.  The project began with locating a barn frame built before the American Revolution.  These ancient timbers are the backbone to the walls of glass that comprises the entire front facade, allowing the gardens to always be a part of the event and creating a magic, twinkling, romantic ambiance that so many of our clients seek us out for.  Soaring 45 feet tall, the roof is the most organic material possible—a thatch water reed 12" thick, which lasts 75 years!

We ponder each and every detail.  There is research and a story behind everything we offer.  Our votives are organic soy.  Our table linens are natural linen and organic cotton.  Any paper we use is on 100% post consumer recycled paper.  Our gardens are organically maintained and our main centerpiece is 200 organic roses.  We heat our dishes with a non-petroleum chafing fuel.  We categorize our waste stream into 12 categories that we carefully recycle and are close to zero waste.  We researched the dilemma of recycled paper towels versus organic fabric towels versus electric hand dryers... the list goes on and on.  We like to think of it as voracious curiosity and being excited about each and every detail of each and every event.

Our perfectionism extends to party planning.  We are a full-service event facility, which means we can provide the catering, the wedding cakes, the flowers, coordinating services, the tables, chairs, linens, napkins, china, the wait staff and bartenders... and on.  Our talented and dedicated team of professionals work hand-in-hand with you to create your perfect event.  We approach each and every event with the same passion and attention to detail that weddings require.  As clients walk through our doors with pictures in hand or just a daydream, we are willing and able to make their grand event come true, down to the last detail.  After 26 years of being in business, Barr Mansion and Artisan Ballroom has a long history of making dreams come true.
