While shopping for wedding photographers make sure not only does you take quality of the photographers work but also the photographer’s personality into consideration. When you meet with a photographer to view their work stay and talk with them for some time, make sure you get along with their sense of humor and style of conversation, remember you aren't just hiring someone to photograph (probably one of the most important days of your life) but your also going to be hiring the person who follows you around the entire day; like a lost puppy dog. Keep in mind the photographer also has a large part of how the flow of the day will go, controlling when the wedding party will get to open bar by how quickly and seamlessly the formals go and sometimes even when the cake cutting and garter toss are done, the wedding photographer becomes like your right hand man on the day of the wedding. You don't want to be stuck on the happiest day of your life with someone that you find annoying... or worse smelly!
I’ve had brides have their hair fall out of the up do right before we cut the cake, and I had to recreate the style for them, I’ve had dresses break and I always carry safety pins with me, I’ve feed brides gummy worms when they realized because their hair appointment ran late they never ate and now at 1pm in the afternoon are shaking like a leaf from low blood sugar. . . On these brides wedding days I was not only the photographer but a close friend who saved the day, carrying the train when the maid of honor was nowhere to be found. Your photographer will probably find themselves in a role you weren’t expecting them to be in when the time comes make sure your personalities are compatible.
