Tips and Advice
HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF
YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
CONGRATULATIONS! You have made a great investment to have Apple Studios photograph your wedding. Now we want to give you tips on how to get the absolute most out of using us for your photography. Not every wedding has the best circumstances for us to really go above and beyond our couples’ expectations, but by using some of our tips you can get images that are more outstanding than you imagined.
SEE EACH OTHER BEFORE THE WEDDING!
Now the first thought everybody has is “absolutely no” to the idea, as we did when it came to our own wedding years ago. But then we got to thinking …
BENEFITS TO SEEING EACH OTHER BEFORE THE CEREMONY:
Pictures! Pictures! & More Pictures! You will have approximately 30 – 50% more images from your wedding day by seeing each other before. If we have limited time, we cannot rush making the images, we can only take fewer of them. You’ve made a tremendous investment in photography and we want you to get everything you want.
By doing this, we have the opportunity to set you two up in order to really capture that special moment of seeing each other for the first time and that “first glance” between the two of you. We can do it either alone or with loved ones watching.
You and he will be less nervous afterwards. If you’re less nervous, your smiles will be more natural, you will look more beautiful and he will look more handsome.
We then have ample time to set up some outstanding shots of you two together! We often find that couples who do not see each other before the ceremony do not get as many or as great pictures of themselves together because they always are in a hurry to get to their reception. You might say that you will not be in a hurry, but our experience shows that you will when it comes to that time. We have never had a couple that was not worried about rushing key photos to get to their party including us on our own special day! You will not want to keep your guests waiting, particularly those that traveled a long distance to share your special day.
We can take all of the pictures before the wedding begins leaving you more time to enjoy your reception.
All of the pictures will be done before the ceremony leaving you with fresh make-up, great hair and excited smiles in all of your pictures!
Trust us, having done this many times, our couples who have done this before their weddings have never regretted it!
HAVE A GAP BETWEEN YOUR CEREMONY AND RECEPTION
If you are still dead set against seeing each other before the ceremony, we require at least a 2 – 3 hour gap between the ceremony and reception. This time begins to run after your receiving line concludes.
BENEFITS OF HAVING A GAP BEFORE YOUR RECEPTION
Couples always insist on group family photos. These are taken right after the receiving line concludes and take about 30 minutes. Then, bridal party photography can begin. By having a gap, you allow ample time to travel somewhere for great pictures (especially if your church is not the most photogenic place). We can jump in a limo, trolley or bus and go anywhere you would love to take pictures. If you have an afternoon wedding, you can still have an opportunity to have an evening reception.
Your guests can explore the sights of the city with a nice organized tour given by a family member or just have a chance to freshen up before the reception. You can even have a cocktail party organized! This will insure that the two of you have the best opportunity to get the most unique pictures of your wedding party and yourselves as newlyweds. Last but not least…you get to truly take in the day and enjoy every minute of it as opposed to hurrying around, sweating getting stressed.
ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME BEOFRE THE CEREMONY FOR PICTURES
If the above are completely out of the question, then at least allow for no less than three hours before the ceremony for pictures. Make sure all bridesmaids are dressed with bouquets and ready prior to our arrival to begin pictures with the bride.
- All flowers need to be dry and ready at the start of pictures.
- Boutonnieres need to be pinned on the groom and groomsmen promptly on their arrival for pictures.
- Immediate family of both the bride and groom need to be dressed and ready for pictures before the ceremony.
- We will not have any bride with groom and groomsmen or groom with bride and bridesmaids pictures
- We will not have both bride/groom in family group pictures (because the couple won’t see each other during group photography)
Utilize your time with us before the wedding. The best pictures come from before the ceremony, not “drunk” dancing pictures at a reception. That can be covered by the videographer or by family members with point and shoot cameras!
COOPERATION IS KEY!
After all the formal pictures are done, we need the cooperation of you two together to take some time for some great picture as newlyweds.
If you are worried about having guests wait too long to eat, break “tradition” (85% of couples see each other before) and go ahead and have them start eating before you arrive (not just appetizers, everything)! Trust us, they will love it, you will not feel pressured and the party will get started much earlier in the evening! If you make them wait too long, guests tend to leave early after eating.
Be willing to do fun things during photography and do not moan when we suggest them. After all, we do it because we know it looks great! Warn your wedding party that photos are important to you and that we might be a little different in the way we work than other photographers they may have seen.
LIGHTING AND BACKGROUNDS ARE CRUCIAL TO PHOTOGRPAHS
If you get ready in a dimly lit room in front of a yellow Sunday School bulletin board with Thanksgiving decorations on it, your “getting ready pictures” will be unique to say the least! Think about that when you decide where to get ready. All of the great pictures that we take and display in our albums are depicting natural light and natural backgrounds.
Consider - what time does the sun set? If you are getting married in September – March, think about it. If there is no natural light left at the time for your photographs after the ceremony then we highly suggest seeing each other before the ceremony and getting all the pictures accomplished (if you want pictures like the ones you have seen that we have done).
These are just a few tips on how to get the most out of Apple studios for your wedding photographs. You have hired us, now take advantage of having us and do something truly unique on your wedding day. We love to go to different locations with wedding parties. We are there to give you images that you will treasure forever.
