If you want a fun and memorable wedding reception then Airwave Dave is your DJ! He puts 110% effort into making sure you and all your guests have a great time. He has 25 years experience and his ability to Emcee the events and motivate a dance floor reflects that.I have personally seen the attention to detail, care and hours he spends in preparing for your reception. This is your first party together as the newlyweds and you want your guests to remember the good time they had with you. Airwave Dave is the guy you can trust to help you achieve that dream. He is truly a one-of-a-kind Mobile DJ, Pianist and professional Emcee!
Airwave Dave has a fantastic, down-to-earth nature, and his enthusiasm for weddings is contagious. He did an amazing job at a mutual client's wedding on November 15, and I am honored to have had the pleasure of working with him. I may not have been in the wedding business for long (2 years), but I have seen quite a few dj's and bands perform at weddings now. By far Dave is the most outgoing and entertaining!

Frequently Asked Questions for DJ
Describe your DJ style:
Very outgoing and approachable! Guests are encouraged to participate and made to feel like they're a part of the whole event! The music is just the base for the Master of Ceremonies and staging of events. The reception is all about you!

What is your usual attire?
Unless there is a themed event, Airwave Dave! ALWAYS performs in tuxedo!

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
Airwave Dave! brings 20,000+ songs to every event! While there is a chance the song requested may not be in the repertoire, if the newlyweds-to-be have the song, they're welcome to bring it, if Airwave Dave! can't obtain it from his music subscription services.

How many other DJs do you work with?
You're looking at him!

What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
The average wedding reception usually lasts four (4) hours from start to finish. That's generally the timetable Airwave Dave! likes to start with.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Airwave Dave! would love to meet all of the brides he books prior to booking, however, many of his clients are out-of-town and are hosting a destination wedding. Airwave Dave! has so many references you can call, after having talked to him, you'll know if he's right for your function!

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
Airwave Dave! does theme weddings, including 60's shindig weddings where he comes dressed as Austin Powers!

Do you bring your own equipment?
Airwave Dave! brings all his own DJ gear to every event!

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
Airwave Dave! believes that you deserve all the services that a DJ can provide ... that's why he INCLUDES ALL LIGHTING with every package, NOT a la carte priced like other services tend to do!

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
Airwave Dave! likes to be set up at least 30-45 minutes PRIOR to guest arrival; therefore, plan to have a 3-hour advance allowance for set-up.

Do you have any extra space requirements?
Generally, a 5' X 15' space is sufficient for set-up; however, Airwave Dave! likes to be right next to the dance floor [NO RISERS!] so he can interact with the crowd. [See photos and video for further explanation.]

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
When appropriate, Airwave Dave! interjects whatever announcements and/or rhetoric is neccessary to make your event successful!

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Airwave Dave! has all the particulars about eats and drinks in his booking agreement. At most events, he's so busy emceeing he doesn't have time for eats, so he eats in advance of the event!

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
Recorded music is played during your dinner or cocktail hour, unless you've made arrangements with Airwave Dave! to play cocktail piano music for your reception.

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
If Airwave Dave! should become incapacitated or heaven forbid, deceased, prior to your performance, his business insurance policy covers the replacement costs of a DJ with similar styles and talents to his!

What is your overtime rate?
Airwave Dave! currently bills overtime at $200 per hour, cash, given by the host 15 minutes PRIOR to the start of the overtime period, otherwise, Airwave Dave! will wind the crowd down to the close of the event, which includes conducting and hosting the send-off of the newlyweds!

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
Within 100 miles of Austin and San Antonio, there is no travel fee. However, outside of that 100-mile area, there is an upcharge, plus hotel and meals.

Additional Questions and Answers
Do you normally do combo events where you play BOTH the ceremony and the reception?  YES! Most definitely. That's where the bride gets the best deal!

Tips and Advice

About how soon to book your entertainment ... I am often asked how soon a bride is supposed to book her DJ. Many brides will wait until 3 months before their event, only to discover that most DJ’s, even the services that offer multiple DJ’s, are already booked to capacity.  Here’s a tip ... when you book your reception venue, book your entertainment immediately. I am generally being asked to reserve dates 9 to 12 months out because my brides know they’re going to get the best bang for their buck! They want personality and fun ... that’s why they call me! I’m confident that I can make your night one your guests will be talking about for years to come. You know your DJ’s good if he can provide you with not only bridal references, but references of venue and event planners as well. You’ll find all of those references at www.airwavedave.com on the mobile DJ link. If you'll notice the picture of the bride and groom dancing on my portfolio ... the father of the bride attended a wedding the following week where he ran into guests that attended his daughter's reception ... how much fun they had there was all they could talk about! The father of the bride [Gary Tupa] immediately emailed me to tell me about it. WOW!

About your guest list ... when it comes to having a successful reception [i.e. party], understand that certain people you'll be wanting to invite don't "party" like you think they will. They're what I call the "meet, eat and retreat group". They make their obligatory attendance, say HI, eat and excuse themselves and head for the door because any kind of party [not just yours] is kind of out of their "social realm". They're homebodies, not socialites. Remember that when you invite them. That way, you won't be disappointed.

About being extraordinary ... Every bride wants to have the wedding and reception their guests will talk about long after it's over. I always tell my brides to put "DANCING MANDATORY" on their invitations [at the bottom ... and I know that just gave you a chuckle]. But just think, you put the bug in their ear that they're going to have fun, didn't you? I ask most of my brides if they were given a choice on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being totally sedate and boring, to 10 being totally over the top, how they would rate the wedding reception they want to have. What do you think they tell me?

Let's make this thing fun, shall we?

About tipping your entertainment ... as a general rule of thumb, if the DJ "knocks your socks off", tipping an extra $100 or more is not out of the question. If the DJ is "just okay" and you get no complaints from your guests, a $50 will do. If you hire a band, an extra $25 per band member for beer money-expenses is a good thing; unless they're traveling half-way across the country ... then build the tip into the price of at least 15% per bandmember for the effort.
