Describe your
DJ style:
Holliday Productions has a personable, professional style that is relaxed and appropriately interactive with your guests. If you want a DJ who is the center of attention, then look elsewhere. Holliday Productions provides the great music and the atmosphere for fun without taking the focus of the evening away from the bride and groom. |
How many other
DJs do you work with?
Les Holliday IS Holliday Productions. When you hire Holliday Productions, you get Holliday Productions. Every time. |
Do you have
replacement DJs in case you become unavailable on the wedding
day?
Holliday Productions is a member of the DJAWP (Disc Jockey Association of Western Pennsylvania), and as such has a network of other great DJs to count on in case of an emergency. |
Do you
specialize in any ethnic and/or international events?
Holliday Productions has done events that focus on a wide variety of ethnic music, including Italian, Irish, Jewish, Czech, and Polish. |
Is the bride
able to meet the DJ before booking?
Most brides/grooms (and sometimes families!) meet with Les prior to the wedding, but when time is tight or for repeat business, many clients feel comfortable making the arrangements over the phone. All contact, both in-person and phone conversations, are included in the price. Once you book Holliday Productions, Les becomes another resource for you when you have questions about what "usually" happens or "how could we handle THIS?" |
If you do not
have one of the songs pre-requested by the couple, do you
require that they provide it?
If there is ANY possible way for Holliday Productions to acquire music selections that are requested and which are not already in the 30,000+ music library, then Les will purchase that music. If the music is not available and the client has a copy, then Holliday Productions will use the client's copy and return it immediately to the client. Les says, "I'd prefer to buy it myself. That way, if it is requested again, I'll have my own copy!" |
What is your
usual attire?
Unless the client specifically requests special attire, Les will wear a black tuxedo. He even wears a tux when setting up his equipment! |
Do you bring
your own equipment?
Holliday Productions features the following equipment: TWO Bose® L1 sound systems with double bass modules and a ToneMatch™ audio engine. A Macintosh G4 powerbook, a LaCie hard drive with the music files, Bose® headphones, and a Sennheiser wireless microphone system. |
Do you offer
special equipment into your service?
When the occasion requires it, Holliday Productions can provide up to five wireless microphones and up to three microphone stands with booms. Great for special events requiring multiple microphones. No additional charge! |
What is your
minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
The minimum contract amount is for four or fewer hours. If you have an event shorter than four hours, you must pay the minimum amount for the event. |
Do you usually
emcee the reception and/or talk between songs?
A veteran of 7 1/2 years on the air in the Chicago area, Les Holliday brings a professional voice and presence to the emcee duties of the night. Blending comments with the atmosphere of the evening is a skill, and Les is one of the best. Although Les was on the air in Chicago, he is not "on the air" at your reception. :)

Do you take any
breaks?
Holliday Productions performs without taking any breaks. |
Will you
arrange for recorded music to play during your break(s)?
Holliday Productions performs without taking any breaks. |
Do you require
a meal break? If yes, do you require that the wedding party
provide your meal?
Holliday Productions performs without taking any breaks, not even for a meal. If the client wishes to provide a "take-home" meal for Les at the end of the evening, it is most welcome, but not expected nor required. |
How much time
do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site
and/or couple provide a table for you to setup on?
Holliday Productions usually arrives 1 1/2 hours prior to start time for setup. This allows time to test the system completely and to make any adjustments required, including implementing any backup plans if necessary. A six- or eight-foot table is usually provided for Holliday Productions, but it there are no tables available, then Holliday Productions can bring a 2' x 4' table for compact, space-saving setup. Clients must advise Holliday Productions ahead of time if a table must be part of the setup provided by Holliday Productions. Holliday Productions will provide a deep blue table covering and a modest banner to hide the table setup from general view. |
Do you have any
extra space requirements?
The Holliday Productions setup is highly flexible and can be compacted to a very small space. The only requirement is that the ceiling must be eight feet or higher, as the Bose® L1 sound system tower is seven feet high. (See pictures elsewhere on the site.) |
What is your
overtime rate?
The standard overtime rate is $100 for each additional hour or portion of an hour beyond the standard base rate. |
Do you charge
for travel expenses?
Travel outside of the Pittsburgh area may involve a surcharge, especially if overnight accommodations must be made. Such surcharges are assessed on a case-by-case basis and are negotiated with the client. |
Additional Questions and Answers
Question: Are you insured?
Answer: Many venues now require DJs to show proof of insurance before they will allow them to perform. Holliday Productions is fully insured. DJs who carry insurance demonstrate their commitment to professionalism. DJs without insurance are just crossing their fingers and hoping. Don't hire a DJ who is uninsured.
Before you hire a DJ, consider the following. Your DJ should:
• Have experience. Les Holliday has done hundreds of weddings since 1980 and can handle the expected and the unexpected.
• Have personality. Les relates easily to audiences of all kinds and will gauge the amount of interaction with your guests to suit your needs.
• Provide great music. Holliday Productions travels with a music library of over 15,000 songs and draws from a total library of over 30,000 songs. If you request a song that is not on the music library, chances are that it is in the expanded library and can be added.
• Have the best equipment. Holliday Productions features TWO Bose® L1 sound systems with double bass modules. While that may not mean much to you, it will mean the best sound you'll ever hear for you and your guests! And it means there is a built-in backup for equipment malfunctions so you can rest easy.
• Be fully insured. Many venues now require DJs to show proof of full insurance before they will even let them in the door. Holliday Productions is fully insured.
• Be professional. Holliday Productions will coordinate the evening with your other wedding professionals to make sure everything runs smoothly. Once dinner is done, it's up to the DJ to make the reception a success, and Holliday Productions will deliver a reception that your guests will rave about.
• Have a backup plan. As a member of DJAWP (Disc Jockey Association of Western Pennsylvania), Holliday Productions has a network of DJs standing in the wings in case of an emergency. No one can predict accidents or illness, but you can rest secure in the knowledge that you won't be left holding the bag if it happens.
• Have the right price. While cost is important, it shouldn't be the most important factor in your decision.
Modern Bride magazine recently reported that the entertainment at a reception is responsible for 80% of the success of a reception, yet most people spend only 5% of their budget on entertainment. While ice sculptures, chair covers, flowers, candles, gowns, tuxes, and the cake are all important, it's the music and the DJ who plays it that will make or break your reception. Don't risk everything by hiring a DJ based simply on price.
